At Nuna, our management team and on-site supervisors work closely with our clients to ensure everyone has a complete and thorough understanding of the operational objectives and terms and conditions of the planned work. Our management team provides a high level of consistent communication, monitors project progress daily and provides detailed project updates regularly. We work hard to make sure work stays on schedule, the budget is kept on track and all client objectives are met.
Barry Palmer
Chief Executive Officer
Barry Palmer was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Nuna and President & CEO of North American Construction Group in January 2026. Barry first joined NACG in 1982 as a heavy equipment operator and moved up through the company from there, serving as Operations Foreman, General Foreman, Superintendent, Project Manager, Operations Manager, and General Manager of HC&M, prior to being promoted into the role of Vice President, Oil Sands Operations in December 2011. In June 2013, Barry was named Vice President, Heavy Construction & Mining, and in November 2018, the title was escalated to Senior Vice President Operations. In January 2021, he climbed another step up the ladder, taking on the title of Chief Operating Officer. In January 2024, Barry was named Chief Operating Officer and the Regional President of the MacKellar Group in Australia before returning to Canada in 2025.
Jarda Slavik
President & Chief Operating Officer
Jarda Slavik joined Nuna in 2024 as President & Chief Operating Officer. In this role, Jarda drives operational excellence and overall improvement with a focus on safety culture and growth of the company in the heavy civil construction and mining industry.
Prior to Nuna, Jarda worked for North American Construction Group for 14 years, first as Operations Manager and most recently as General Manager – Oilsands. As General Manager, Jarda was responsible for overseeing operations at various oilsands mines, where he managed some of the company’s most significant clients and contracts. Before joining NACG, Jarda was with the Ledcor Group of Companies for almost 20 years, working on numerous large-scale construction and mining projects across Canada and the United States.

Grant Pearson, P.Eng.
Vice President, Business Development
Grant Pearson has been with Nuna since 2001 and was appointed Vice President, Business Development in 2011. His previous roles included Strategic Initiatives Manager, Engineering Manager and Project Manager. As Vice President of Business Development, Grant is responsible for the development of new mining and construction business for the Nuna Group of Companies through developing both business and client relationships and liaising with various governing bodies and Indigenous communities.
Prior to joining Nuna, Grant gained hands-on mining and engineering experience at mine sites throughout British Columbia as a Mining Engineer and Surveyor. Grant graduated from the British Columbia Institute of Technology with a Diploma of Technology, Mining Engineering in 1992. He then attended the Montana School of Mines, earning his Bachelor of Science, Mining Engineering in 1998. Grant holds a Professional Engineer license in Alberta, British Columbia, and Northwest Territories / Nunavut.
